Notes: This is the bio that I use for Mahj Life, "After more than 30 years in the classroom, Alissa has traded lesson plans and gradebooks for tiles and table chatter-bringing her teaching expertise into a whole new world of learning. She now shares her love of mah jongg with students of all ages, guiding them through NMJL rules, etiquette, and the essential skills that help new players feel confident and capable at the table. A natural educator, Alissa breaks down the game in ways that feel friendly, intuitive, and empowering. She hosts open-play events, themed guided-play nights, and ongoing beginner classes at her local library, ensuring new players have a welcoming place to practice and grow. Her mission is simple: to help every student feel at home with the tiles and ready to take on any East Coast table with confidence and joy."

Notes: I taught myself how to play Mahjong when I was in high school. My love for anime and manga first sparked my interest in Japanese and Asian culture, which eventually led me to learning Mahjong. Not long after, I taught three friends from my high school anime club how to play. That became my very first Mahjong class, and it's still one of my favorite memories. Later, while attending college, I joined the campus anime club, which had around 10 to 15 members. Once everyone found out that I knew how to play Mahjong, they immediately started asking me to teach them. After a few beginner lessons, playing Mahjong became a regular activity after many of our anime club meetings, and we would often play a game or two together afterward. The last time I formally taught Mahjong was while I was working at Target. A few coworkers became interested and asked me to teach them. That was around 2010, so it has been quite a while, but I've truly been wanting to get back into Mahjong and teaching again. I would also like to mention that I do not have formal Mahjong teaching certifications or professional training. I know there are official and unofficial organizations that offer teacher certification programs, but my experience comes entirely from years of personal play and teaching others because I genuinely love the game. I hope you feel I would be a good fit for your community. I'm very excited about the possibility of teaching Mahjong again and sharing the game with new players.

Notes: I know the deal - you work hard! You don't have weekday lunches to learn a game. You're grinding all day, maybe picking up kids, and looking for a way to use your brain while socializing. Mahjong classes on your schedule - that's what we're here for! We offer private lessons, group lessons, and are open to whatever partnership you can imagine.
